Ben has made my year, and my dog's, complete. Freddy has now finally found his first Brumale and Aestivum in the wild. Not in competition, not hidden by me. In the wild.
Your dog assessed, hands-on work in the field, and a written plan to take home. In the South Downs, or at your location.

One to one, in the field, with a plan you can follow afterwards.
Whatever stage you are at, beginner to advanced, the session is built around where you and your dog currently are. Prefer to train from home, or want a lower-cost route? Private 1-to-1 online coaching (from £150) covers the same system over video calls, and the two combine well. See in-person, online, or both below.
Every session follows the same sequence, whatever phase your dog is at.
Ben watches your dog work first, so the session is built around where you and your dog actually are, not a generic script.
You work your dog directly with Ben alongside you, correcting timing, mechanics and handling in real time, in the field.
You leave with your next phase mapped out in writing, so the session keeps paying off long after Ben has gone.
Sessions run on generic woodland and open ground across the South Downs, Ben's home ground, or Ben travels to you. Specific truffle grounds are never shared or disclosed, in keeping with the Truffle Forager Code; the space used for a session is chosen for room to train, not for its truffle yield.
Travel beyond the local South Downs area is arranged case by case, and the final price depends on session length and travel, confirmed when you enquire. Full details are in our terms.
Every route runs on the same BSH System, at any stage. The difference is format, budget and how you like to learn.

Buddy kicked off the search with a big truffle find within the first minute. He was quite sensational, doing laps at high speed around the woods. Extraordinary to think his nose was able to work so well as he was going past so fast.
Oscar was let loose to search on his own. Great news, he found his first truffle and I was super proud! Thank you Ben and Buddy for your extreme patience and sharing your knowledge and passion.
We were lucky enough to go out with Ben and Buddy, and I was amazed when Angus found his first truffles. Very much looking forward to trying again soon.
A great course to learn the basics to train your dog to find truffles, followed by some lovely truffle-inspired dishes. A great day out and highly recommended.
A terrific day of learning about truffle hunting with our dogs. Ben and Buddy did us proud, showed us how the experienced dog works, which enabled our dogs to find real truffles. Lunch in the woodland, a delicious foraged mushroom soup with shaved truffle. Highly recommended.

Ben starts by watching your dog work to see exactly where things stand, then works through hands-on training with you directly, correcting your timing and mechanics in real time. You leave with a written plan for what to do next.

Yes. Private in-person sessions can be held at your location as well as in the South Downs. Travel beyond the local South Downs area is arranged case by case and may affect the final price, so mention where you are when you enquire. Full details are in our terms.
Just your dog, a lead, and whatever rewards, food or toy, currently work best for them. If your dog already has training kit, such as a scent tin or search box, bring it along so the session builds on what you already use.
No fixed requirement. Sessions work for dogs at any stage, from early Build-phase foundations through to dogs ready for the Hunt phase. Tell Ben where you and your dog currently stand when you enquire, so the session is pitched at the right level.
Exact session length is confirmed when you book, based on what you and your dog need to cover.
You leave with a written plan covering what to work on next and how. Many owners use it alongside the Truffle Dog Club or private 1-to-1 online coaching to keep progress going between in-person sessions.
Both work at any stage, so it comes down to format and budget. In-person suits owners who want hands-on time in the field, whether you are a complete beginner starting from day one or your dog is already working real woodland. Online coaching, from £150, covers the same system over video calls and costs less. Many owners combine the two: an in-person session first, then online calls to keep progress moving. If you are not sure, book a free Discovery Call and Ben will point you at the right fit.
