Three phases, over 90 days
Always in this order, because skipping ahead is where most training falls apart. You move through Build, Search and Hunt, with support and feedback at every stage.
Phase 1 · Early stretch
Build
Before your dog ever meets truffle odour, you build the foundations: clear communication between you and your dog, genuine drive for the work, structured play as training fuel, and the confidence to work in new places. This is where the Programme starts, and it is the same starting point as every other BSH route, just with the pace and support to move through it properly.
Phase 2 · Middle stretch
Search
Your dog's foundations get channelled into truffle-specific work: introducing a target search odour, building difficulty in a controlled setting, proofing against distractions, and training a clear, controlled alert signal. Feedback on your training runs through this phase, so mistakes get caught early rather than practised in.
Phase 3 · Final stretch
Hunt
Training moves into the field: real terrain, real conditions, and in most cases real truffle odour. You run mock hunts in woodland and build toward a genuine search for wild truffles, learning to adapt as weather and ground shift. By the end of the 90 days, you and your dog have been through the complete system, together.
