Step into the world of truffle hunting.

Truffles are rare, delicious and worth a lot of money. They grow underground, and dogs can be taught to find them by smell. On a Discovery Day, you learn how it all works.

You'll spend the day outdoors with Ben Sweet and the Truffle Forager team. Your dog learns the first steps of truffle training. You eat a lunch full of fresh truffles. And you hear the stories, science and secrets of British truffle hunting. Groups are small, so there's plenty of time for your questions. No dog? Come along anyway to taste, watch and learn.

Doing It The Right Way

Sustainable, ethical truffle foraging.

One thing matters to us above all: doing this the right way. We're advocates for sustainable, ethical truffle foraging, harvesting in a way that protects our wild native habitats and keeps truffles thriving for generations to come. You'll learn what that actually means, and how to do it yourself, on the day.

Your Truffle Journey

Where a Discovery Day fits.

Two great ways in, a full training system behind them, and a goal worth working towards.

First Steps · The Taster

Truffle Dog Starter Day

A short, simple taster session. Just you, your dog and the very first steps of truffle training. Perfect if you want to dip a toe in before committing to a full day.

First Steps · This Day

Truffle Dog Discovery Day

The full day out. It follows on nicely from a Starter Day, or it's the perfect first step if you want more than just training: beginner truffle dog training, plus eating fresh truffles and diving deeper into the knowledge, theory and world of truffles.

The Goal · Advanced

Truffle Dog Shadow Day

The final milestone of the whole system: a real truffle hunt with Ben, for dogs already well into their advanced training. Shadow Days are reserved exclusively for Truffle Forager students, and your journey to one starts at a Discovery Day.

The Bit In Between

The BSH Truffle Dog Training System

A Discovery Day is the start, not the whole journey. Between your first steps and a Shadow Day sits the real training: the BSH Truffle Dog Training System, taught step by step. Most owners follow it through the VIP Truffle Dog Club, with masterclasses and coaching that take you from first sniff to working truffle dog. Prefer more support? There's online coaching, private one-to-one training, our 90-Day Training Programme, and standalone Foundations and Intermediate workshops.

Who it's for

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Yes. If you don't have a dog or aren't able to bring yours, you can attend as a Spectator. You'll observe the training workshops, enjoy the food, sit in on the talks and experience the day fully.
Not at all. We welcome complete beginners, this Discovery Day is designed primarily for novice dogs and handlers.
For dogs and handlers, we recommend bringing water for you and your dog, a long line (non-retractable), and some tasty treats your dog loves. Ideally a treat pouch or jacket with easy-access pockets too, quick access to rewards keeps the training flowing. Zip-lock plastic bags tend to slow the process down.

Yes. We schedule rest periods throughout the day, and water bowls and shaded areas are always available.
You can, but you'd be missing out on the fresh truffle dishes, which are a big part of why people come.
Our Discovery Days run in Sussex and Hampshire. The precise location is shared with you after booking. We keep our truffle sites confidential to protect them.
A Truffle Dog Starter Day is a shorter taster session focused purely on beginner training. A Discovery Day is the full day out: the same beginner training, plus a fresh truffle lunch, expert talks and a deeper dive into the world of truffles. Some people start with a Starter Day and move up. Others come straight to a Discovery Day. Both work.
A Truffle Dog Shadow Day is a real truffle hunt with Ben, and it's part of a dog's advanced training, so it comes later in the journey, once your dog is well trained. Shadow Days are reserved exclusively for Truffle Forager students. Attending a Discovery Day and training with Ben, through the Truffle Dog Club, coaching or one-to-one training, is the path that gets you there.
Refunds are available up to 14 days after purchase, or you can defer your ticket to a future date instead. Outside of this window, refunds are offered on a discretionary basis.
